For those of you that know me, you know I curated an exhibit on the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion last year. Some of you were able to join me for the virtual exhibit opening, with special guest presenter Colonel (Ret.)Edna Cummings, who shared about the efforts to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the women of the 6888th. In the 11 months since H.R. 1012 “‘Six Triple Eight’ Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2021” was introduced, it has gained more cosponsors but is unfortunately still short of the needed number of cosponsors to proceed.
I am hopeful that you’ll join me in contacting your representative, or other representatives in your state and encourage them to become a cosponsor of H.R. 1012.
This spreadsheet contains an up to date listing of all US Representatives and whether or not they have cosponsored the bill. In an effort to encourage representatives to support Wacs from their home state, check out this list compiled by the Buffalo Soldier Educational and Historical committee.
Since there are fewer than a dozen surviving members of the 6888th, it is imperative that this bill pass as soon as possible—please help ensure its success!
